Origin of Surname
This is a Jersey family name which goes back to at least the middle of the 15th century. Although not a common name in Normandy today, it is certainly of French origin. It is unusual in that it is derived from a female rather than a male personal name - Geva, a short form of Genevieve.
Guillaume Gavey, see tree below, was born in St Saviour about 1440.
- Gavey, 1607
- Gave, 1528
There is some overlap between these two trees originating with the same Guillaume

It's worth looking at the Cavey gravestones because it can be very difficult to distinguish between 'C' and 'G' on the old stones.
