For the benefit of those wishing to check further details of records included in the Jerripedia A-Z indexes of Church of England baptisms, marriages and burials we have created this page of links to the registers released by Jersey Heritage to Ancestry. Having found the date shown in our indexes for the records you wish to view, this allows you to go straight to the register, bypassing Ancestry's index, which may contain errors that we have corrected.

Find the first record

These links go to the first record in each register, ignoring images of covers and blank pages. The dates given are for records contained in each volume, correcting some errors in Ancestry's own index.

Some of the registers have pages shown in reverse date order. Our links to these start from the first page with an indication that the dates run backwards from there.

The great majority of registers list baptisms, marriages and burials in separate sections, but the early St Lawrence and St Ouen registers mix all three, recording all events in chronological order on the same pages.

Trinity registers are a total tangle, with some containing mixtures of baptisms, marriages and burials on the same pages; others contain the same records in separated categories.

It is very difficult to read some of the entries in 16th and 17th century registers, and the pages of some of them are badly damaged. It has always been believed that a significant number of records was missing from the 20th century transcriptions of registers up to 1842 by members of the Channel Island Family History Society and with the availability of images of the register pages it is clear to see why they struggled with many entries, particularly in St Martin registers.

Some registers were copied earlier and the copy made in 1717 of the St Ouen register from 1632, which mixes baptisms, marriages and burials on the same pages in chronological order, notes that the first 12 pages were illegible and the records were only copied from 1634.

It will be seen that there are some gaps in some of the parish listings below. This may be because we have failed to find a sequence of records in a register, but our early use of the Ancestry records leads us to believe that they have failed to digitise some short sequences.

Grouville

Some periods are covered by the original, barely legible registers, and the easier to read copies made in the 19th century. Some Grouville registers contain just baptisms, others have burials and marriages in the same volume as baptisms. Our links are for the first record of each section
