Beech Farm, St John, now called Beaupré, the home of many generations of the Baudains family and of their descendants, in a female line, Picot

This tree was added to the site in 2011 and has been revised several times since and reviewed in 2019 and 2021 by Guy Dixon. In 2022, there were added by him details from the Jersey Land Registry linking this family to their St Martin namesakes, and further information from a St John Baudains genealogy at La Sociéte Jersiaise

Baudains family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. Pierre was almost certainly the son of Pierre Baudains of St Martin by his second marriage, to the daughter of Guillaume Le Marinel of St John, see below
  2. RP 2/115 (1606)
  3. RP 2/115 (1606): The partage transcribed and translated here, whereby Edouard Baudains, his brother Nicolas, and their two sisters, divide the inheritance of their late father Pierre, demonstrates clearly the kinship between the St John Baudains family, and that of St Martin. Note also the name Nicolas, continued over many generations in St John and that of their father, Pierre: "Edouard Baudains, eldest son of the late Pierre Baudains and of Katherine, his wife, daughter of Richard Maret, together with Edouard Le Sebirel, as much in right of his wife as Procureur of Nicolas Baudains; Richard Le Sebirel, guardian of his children, in right of their mother, the said Edouard Baudains and Nicolas Baudains and the said wives, children of the said Pierre Baudains and of his said wife, declare three parts of the inheritance of their said parents: 1st part; chosen by Edouard Baudains [eldest son] the house, holding, farmyard, orchards, etc., Le Clos du Seigneur.. and on Mabel Payn 8 cabots of wheat rente...and "la terre de la Vaudine", 3 vergées.. Item: From Michel Sarre, St Martin, in right of his wife, daughter of Jean Baudains, part of the inheritance of the said Pierre Baudains, father of the said Edouard, 21 cabots 4 sixtonniers of wheat rente. 2nd Part; chosen by the said Edouard Le Sebirel, Procureur of Nicolas Baudains,.... 3rd Part; chosen by Edouard Le Sebirel, in right of his wife, and Richard Le Sebirel, guardian of his children, in right of their mother..land in le clos de Montmagdo (sic) and rentes from Edouard Poingdestre, son of John, and from Michel Sarre of St Martin, in right of his wife, daughter of Jean Baudains, part of the inheritance of the said Pierre Baudains, father of the said wives, 12 cabots, 2 sixtonniers [annual] rente". The said wife of Michel Sarre was the heiress Laurence Baudains, Dame du Fief Guille Payn. Provision for cadet sons of a family was made from the parental land or income, such as rentes, as in this case. These were a charge upon the `ainé`s` estate, payable each year. The senior branch of Pierre Baudains St John`s family was thus shown to be the St Martin`s Baudains
  4. Initialled stone at Beech Farm, now Beau Pré, Hérupe (St J): "IBD 1668". In the 1668 Extente, 116, Jean Baudains, in the discharge of Elizabeth Romeril, owed the Crown I Quartier 3 cabots of annual wheat rente
  5. Edouard and his son Simon Baudains are commemorated by an engraved stone at Beaupré: EBD 1711 SBD
  6. Missing generation?
  7. Commemorated at Beaupré, with his father, on the 1711 engraved stone, above
  8. Commemorated on a stone at Beaupré: NBD.MVP
  9. Godparents, the child`s grandparents, Simon Baudains and Marie Nicolle, his wife. The unsigned manuscript tree, used for generations 2-7, other than Romeril and Le Sueur details, has "Susanne", instead of Jeanne, which was probably a transcription error. The parish register confirms Jeanne
  10. Marriage yet to be found, but elsewhere confirmed
  11. Settled at Beech Farm (Beaupré), St John; Constable of St John, then Jurat of the Royal Court. Philippe Picot was his wife`s first cousin
  12. Marriage description: Jean Baudains fils Nicolas, with his bride shown as being of Trinity
  13. Twin
  14. Twin
  15. Twin
  16. Twin
  17. Nephew of Jeanne Benest, generation 4
  18. Marriage record not found
  19. From a genealogy at La Société Jersiaise
  20. This entry from Ancestry's transcript of St John early 17th century baptisms was evidently illegible to the transcriber. Until the original can be viewed, an otherwise unplaceable Jean Baudains, and his three generations of descendants have been provisionally placed here, there being some godparent evidence for this
  21. Godparents: Edouard Baudains, son of Edouard, and Jeanne, his sister
  22. Godparents: Jean Baudains, brother [of father] and Elizabeth Le Masurier, his wife
  23. Godparents: Edouard Baudains, son of Edouard, and Elizabeth Hocquard, his wife
  24. Fils puiné de Pierre Baudains RP 2/8 (1605)
