Descendants of Thomas Dumaresq
TreeIcon.png

This tree, first added to the site in 2012 and reviewed and enlarged on a number of occasions since, has been found to have many inaccuracies. The lines known to be incorrect have been removed, but there are certainly more issues to resolve. We have been tempted more than once to delete the whole tree. It cannot be considered in any respect a reliable tree.

The tree starts very early - long before church records - and it is very difficult to confirm the early generations. Not only is there a lack of records for marriages in the first seven generations, but there are no baptism records for many of these individuals.

We have reviewed the tree again in 2019 and inserted dates of marriages for which we have found records, but have not attempted to reconcile all the inconsistencies this has created. In an attempt to create a meaningful tree we have taken more details than we normally would from online trees. Many of the trees at Ancestry covering this Dumaresq descendancy are wildly inaccurate, but there are some which appear to be better researched and from which we are justified in drawing details, in the absence of better sources. We have indicated where details have been taken from other trees rather than primary records.

We have still not been able to produce a tree which has an overall appearance of being correct - dates in online trees vary wildly and some appear to have been plucked out of thin air.

See Descendants of Philippe Dumaresq for the correct version of the section of the tree which was on this page for some time but has now been delete

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. Possibly son of Thomas Dumaresq (1408- )
  2. Marriage date from online tree, showing it taking place at 'Vinchelesdelabas'. This is presumably a reference to the Fief of Vinchelez de Bas. The Dumaresq family owned this Fief for a long time, but not before 1479. Any marriage involving the family would have been at St Ouen's Parish Church, not the Manor
  3. Marriage before church records start
  4. Marriage before church records start
  5. Marriage before church records start
  6. Bailiff
  7. Marriage before church records start
  8. Bailiff
  9. The online tree from which we have taken other details shows this marriage in 1570, which seems highly unlikely, quoting as a source the 'Jersey Genealogical Society' which, as far as we are aware, has never existed
  10. This is the first marriage in the tree for which we have found a record, but the date of 1652 does not fit with this couple if they had a son in 1635
  11. Marriage record not found
  12. Jurat
  13. Follow the link to a separate tree starting with Jean and Isabel, showing a 12-generation descendancy differing in some respects from what is shown here
  14. Online tree suggests that this marriage was in Sark
  15. Online source suggests that this marriage was in Guernsey
  16. Jurat
