Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. William Kingston`s Will, dated and proved in 1781 describes him as being formerly of the parish of All Saints, Southampton, but then of St Helier, Jersey. Family members that are mentioned start with his grandson William Kingston, eldest son of William Kingston, deceased. His daughters Susannah Hart, wife of John Le Boeuf, and Elizabeth Hart, wife of Henry Hurd, received £20 and £2 to add to £23 already advanced, respectively, with the former receiving a round mahogany table, puter and a bed, the latter previously given. His son, John Kingston was appointed executor and left the remainder of the estate, "having given me his wages till the year of 20 years of age, and always assisted and taken care of me", The testator signed with a good and firm elderly man`s signature: D/Y/A/13 at Jersey Archive
  2. Of St Helier, formerly of Sarum
  3. John Kingston, whose well-signed Will was dated 17th March 1796, appointed his well-beloved wife executrix and named all his "eight children," as shown above, requesting them to equally divide his goods between them. One has the sense of a household at peace among themselves. The Will was proved in 1805: D/Y/A/16 at the Jersey Archive
  4. Whose wife was Jeanne Le Tubelin
  5. Whose wife was Marie Nicolle
  6. His godparents are given as Me William Kingston, Grandfather, and Mse Jeanne Grossin, widow of Me Abraham Ahier, Grandmother. This changes Jeanne Ahier`s parentage, from that previously shown. Jean`s Will, dated 1812 and proved in 1835 and that of his wife, Marie Binard, dated 1847 and proved in 1849, show them to have died childless. Marie was both thoughtful and generous, making nearly thirty bequests: D/Y/A/23 and D/Y/A/27/21, respectively, at the Jersey Archive
  7. Master Mariner and shipowner, 1793-1825
  8. Blacksmith: Register entry on marriage of his son, John, in 1848. James`s Will, dated 1807 and proved in 1828, gives us his date of death, formerly ascribed to a son of his. Moveable property was left to his dearly loved wife, Marie Cabot, who was appointed executrix. This duty was transferred years later to Thomas de Gruchy in 1846: D/Y/A/21 at the Jersey Archive
  9. Living with her daughter, Elizabeth Kingston, in Roseville Street, St Helier, both being of Independant means: 1841 St Helier Census
  10. Blacksmith
  11. Shoemaker
  12. Grower
  13. Sailor
  14. Widower. Sailor
  15. Independant: 1841 St Helier Census, living in Dumaresq Street with his wife Jane, a Shopkeeper, aged 50. He had formerly been a Baker. Living next door was their daughter, Jane Kingston, who was of "Independant" means. Francois` Will, dated and proved in 1841, names his wife, Jeanne Roussel as executrix, leaving her a fair income for life, with remainder to their two daughters "Jane Kingston and Anne Kingston, wife of Elie Rive". It was witnessed by two relatives, Thomas de Gruchy and Philippe Ahier: D/Y/A/25 at the Jersey Archive
  16. Brass Founder; a Widower
  17. William was buried as the "son of Francis Kingston and Jane Roussel, his wife", which is unambiguous. In an earlier version of this tree, English-born William Kingston, a carpenter aged 48 years in 1851, who is not known to have been related, was confused with this William, whose death had been missed. The English William Kingston married Jane, whose maiden name will have been Axworthy, judging by the presence in the 1851 census of "Father-in-Law, Harry Axworthy, [aged] 81" with the family, which had by then, quite independantly, settled in Jersey. The household consisted of children Eliza J[ane] 12, William 10, and Agatha 6. An elder child called Felix, given as born in 1834 on the tree, has not been found. Another older child, William George (1830-1835), died as an infant. This family has been noted here but removed from the above genealogy
  18. 1861 St Helier Census: Leatherseller
  19. Druggist; formerly of Jamaica and latterly of Carmarthen, Wales
