Origin of Surname

The surname Hocart is of Norman origin and is derived from the French word Hoche. There are a number of theories of its origin, including : a small hill; variant of German word Hoch meaning high; it was used as a forename in medieval times, similar to Hugh, so could also be a patronym.

The surname can be found in Guernsey for several hundred years, but the family can be traced back to Domrémy-la-Pucelle, birthplace of Joan of Arc.[1]
