This unusual seven-bay house retains its fine historic proportions, character and features externally. The line of building has a strong presence to the south on the road junction at the bottom of the hill and to the north, with the pigsties and wellhead, alongside the stream.
This building is shown on the Richmond Map of 1795. It dates from 1727, with earlier origins of 15th century. Two-storey, seven-bay house with single storey converted wing to west and barn to east. Pigsties and wellhead to north.
Building divided in to two properties: La Retraite a l'Est accessed through central door, and La Retraite a l'Ouest accessed through door in west wing.

- ↑ The heart is upside down on the stone, for no apparent reason. We have not been able to place Nicolas and Katherine in any of our family trees, and there do not appear to be any online trees covering this branch of the family. Our research suggests that Nicolas was born in St Peter in 1693, the son of Daniel and Jeanne, nee Becquet. Daniel was the son of Nicoll, grandson of Nicol. Nicolas and Katherine had two daughters, Jeanne and Elizabeth, but no sons
