Meteor in a storm in 1830

On 5 April 1828 Meteor was the third paddle steamer added to the Channel Island-Weymouth mail service, following Watersprite and Ivanhoe. She was commanded by Captain Connor, having been built in 1821 by Evans, of Rotherhythe.

Of 190 tons with 60 hp engines by Boulton and Watt, Meteor had originally served on the Lisbon and Irish stations and was on service on the Channel Islands route for nearly two years, except when she was refitting at Holyhead for nearly six months. The Ivanhoe was at Liverpool for new boilers, so for 31 days the Watersprite did the Weymouth-Channel Islands route alone.

Meteor was wrecked in a thick fog on Portland. Her passengers and crew were saved.
