Torode research

Thanks very much Stephen. I will accept any changes that you wish to make to anything that I place on your site. I think that this will really take off. It will offer all Guernsey researchers the chance to publish, share, and centralise their information. Last year I suggested something like this to the Family History Section of La Societe Guernseiaise, but I do not think that they had anyone who had the technical ability to create one. So may I add my appreciation to all the others that have appeared on the CI List recently. I have been cataloguing the Torode family from the year 1520 and intend to bring it up to the present day. After ten years research I think that I am about 70% towards completion. Does this site have the facility of allowing MicroSoft Word files to be placed onto it? I ask because I have made over 850 charts of the various lines of descent within the Torode family. This would be the ideal place to keep them and allow reearchers from all over the world access to them. My computer expertese is somewhat limited and I will probably need some instruction as to how to achieve this. Are you going to link your site in with La Societe and the Priaulx Library? They have been the backbone for Guernsey family research for so many years. Thanks again Brian Torode

References/Notes

Stephen, how do you put end notes in an entry? I tried to follow the set up for Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; refs with no name must have content as set out in the tutorials but could not get it to work. Orpinm 22:17, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

This is the page http://www.guernsey-society.org.uk/donkipedia/index.php5?title=Isaac_Falla You will see the references are in brackets, it would be neater if they could be footnotes. Orpinm 17:32, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Thank you Stephen, will now have to try it out.Orpinm 18:14, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Flags

  • Thanks very much Steve. Not as elegant, unfortunately, as your fluttering Guernsey flag, but much appreciate your changing it.

I've not used this user talk before, but shall try to do so from now on whenever I create a page which I think you can either link direct to or extract information from. It's OK to look at Recent Changes but with so many pages going up you won't always have time to check what is relevant to you.

Site access problems

Hi Steve For some reasons my emails to you in the past couple of days seem to be blocked somewhere between my ISP and your server, so I thought I had better try to get a message to you this way. There are continuing problems with site access. It was down yesterday late morning, and again in the afternoon, and I am getting messages from NZ/Australia about access problems. Hope you can get something sorted, please

Flag

Hello, Sgfoote.

The file Old Flag of Guernsey.png shows the wrong flag. I don't know why or how, but a blue stain covers half of the checkered field. It's undoubtedly a mistake, since the flag should look this way:

Since I'm not an administrator, I kindly ask you to fix this error.

Thank you for your help.
