| 1928 | British Government withdraws funding for the Royal Guernsey Militia. Calcutta flying boat service established. |
| 1929 | Arthur William Bell appointed Bailiff. |
| 1935 | Victor Gosselin Carey (later knighted) appointed Bailiff. Val des Terres road completed. |
| 1939 | Opening of Guernsey Airport at La Villiaze, Forest. |
| 20-23 June 1940 | Evacuation of schoolchildren and other islanders. 17,000 leave. |
| 21 June 1940 | States of Deliberation set up the 'Controlling Committee of the States of Guernsey' of eight members heading different departments, led by its president Ambrose J. Sherwill. |
| 28 June 1940 | German air raids on Guernsey and Jersey (33 killed in Guernsey, 11 in Jersey). B.B.C. announces demilitarization of the Islands hours later on the 9 o’clock news. |
| 30 June 1940 | Start of German Occupation. Units of 216 Infantry Division fly in from Cherbourg. The following day Major Dr Albrecht Lanz arrives as Kommandant. |
| 2 July 1940 | Alderney occupied. |
| 4 July 1940 | Sark occupied. |
| 7 July 1940 | 2nd Lieut. Hubert Nicolle lands in Guernsey secretly to gather information on German forces. |
| 10 July 1940 | 2nd Lieuts. Philip Martel and Desmond Mulholland land in Guernsey. Nicolle picked up. |
| 15 July 1940 | British attempt to mount Commando raid on Guernsey fails. Martel and Mulholland stranded in Guernsey. |
| 28 July 1940 | Martel and Mulholland surrender to the Germans in uniform, and are taken as prisoners of war. |
| 1 August 1940 | Sherwill makes a speech which is broadcast on Radio Bremen, assuring evacuated Islanders that conditions are good in Guernsey. The speech is exploited by German propaganda. |
| 9 August 1940 | Initial period of occupation ends. Military government unit Feldkommandantur 515 arrives in Channel Islands under Colonel Schumacher. |
| 4 September 1940 | 2nd Lieuts. Hubert Nicolle and James Symes land in Guernsey secretly to gather information on German forces. They are stranded in Guernsey when their pickup boat failed to appear on 6 September. |
| 26 September 1940 | Colonel Rudolf Graf von Schmettow appointed military commander of the Channel Islands. |
| 30 December 1940 | Jurat Rev. John Leale elected President of the Controlling Committee of the States of Guernsey after Sherwill's dismissal by the German authorities. |
| 30 April 1941 | 319 Infantry Division officially takes over in the Islands. |
| 20 October 1941 | Hitler orders massive fortification programme in the Islands. Guernsey and Jersey to be 'impregnable fortresses'. Major influx of Organisation Todt construction engineers and labourers begins. |
| 25, 27 September 1942 | 2,000 non-native islanders deported to internment camps in Germany by German authorities. |
| 3-4 October 1942 | Operation Basalt. Twelve British commandos land on Sark and kill four German soldiers at the Dixcart Hotel. One German soldier is captured and abducted. |
| February 1943 | Ex-officers from World War I, Freemasons and other islanders deemed to be security risks deported to internment camps in Germany. |
| 1943 | Guernsey Society founded in London to improve representation of Guernsey interests to British Government. |
| 27 December 1944 | First visit of the Red Cross ship Vega to feed starving islanders. |
| 28 February 1945 | Vizeadmiral Friedrich Hüffmeier takes over command of the Islands from General Rudolf von Schmettow. |
