She also inherited the portrait of the Maréchal Marquis de Grouchy and his family`s correspondence with her brother Thomas. The latter had been, in 1836, recognised as a kinsman by the marshal, together with the then head of the Island family, Philippe de Gruchy of La Chasse, Trinity, and Abraham de Gruchy. A portrait of Thomas de Gruchy, seated, holding an engraved silver sugar sifter, is in the possession of the Carters, Canadian descendants of this family: see notes to Descendants of Jean de Gruchy and Elizabeth Luce
