Notes and references
- ↑ Of La Guillaumerie, Maufant
- ↑ See R.P.29/260 (1716) for Jeanne Bertram`s siblings. They were Elizabeth Bertram (1680- ), wife of Clement Le Bourdon, Felice Bertram (1683- ), wife of François Pirouet and Marie Bertram (1687- ), wife of Matthieu de Gruchy. Three other children predeceased their parents. Cousins in Grouville included members of the Payn family who feature as Bertram godparents, Thomas Payn having married in 1615 Susanne, daughter of Jacques Bertram and Jeanne Le Febvre. Thomas Payn`s son, Thomas junior, is mentioned in this context in the 1668 Extente. Engraved on the Maufant property of Jean Le Geyt and Jeanne Bertram is: "ILG.IBT 1718"
- ↑ Of La Guillaumerie, Maufant
- ↑ Marguerite Estur was a sister of the Reverend Philippe Estur (1695-1719) and of Edouard Estur, Constable of St Saviour: ABSJ, V, 224-225. Her maternal uncle was the Reverend Philippe Falle M.A., Historian of Jersey
- ↑ Jean Le Geyt featured in what was to be the second of three major economic setbacks to hit the Le Geyts dit Le Maillier, albeit not all in the same branch. Facing insolvency in 1799, on the 17th October he sold his home, La Guillaumerie, and all his land, totalling 30 vergées, to Edouard Falle, son of Edouard, son of Philippe [R.P.88/231]. The decision to do so seems to have been precipitous, as none of his sons had been apprenticed to trades or trained in any skills; indeed, his eldest son had only married four months before! Jean, himself, must have taken it badly or was already ill, as he died four months afterwards. Falle`s 19th century descendant in a female line, Le Cornu, then built a new and larger house, of Victorian character, 200 metres north of the old house. This bore the name of the older house but, to distinguish one from the other, was called La Guillaumerie Farm. The older house had probably received its name in the 19th century from the road, La Rue de la Guillaumerie, which passed inbetween these properties and what was doubtless the actual Guillaume property, La Vieille Guillaumerie, on the east side of the road. It should be noted though, that in the 1799 sale of Jean Le Geyt`s house and land, the former was described as his "Maison de Gallie", having retained the name, it is believed, of a tenant living in 1671, when the house was mentioned in an Appairiement as belonging to Abraham Le Geyt but described as his "Maison de Gallie". The fine old house, with its decorated carved lintels and chamfers, was to become, under English ownership, the quaintly named "Guillaumerie Cottage"
- ↑ Richard Falle of St Martin was probably baptised there in 1729, the son of Richard Falle and Rachel Jennes, his wife
- ↑ Lived variously in St Martin, St Saviour and Grouville
- ↑ Jeanne Vaudin, a Trinity farmer`s daughter, on marriage to Jean Le Geyt, must have visualized a settled life as a farmer`s wife at La Guillaumerie. Instead, she was to embark upon, within months, a life of assisting her husband in his itinerant labours
- ↑ Marie de Gruchy was born at Sous Les Bois, Vingtaine de Rosel, which is now owned by the National Trust for Jersey
- ↑ Sophie Le Geyt had a daughter named Mary Ann Gordon, christened in St Martin in January 1821
- ↑ C.Sam.161/7 and 48: (22/10/1834): Philippe Le Masurier had abandoned the conjugal home with his clothing, so the court ordered he support his wife and only child
- ↑ Living 1841: C.Sam.164/438 (1841): " Me Jean Le Geyt, fils ainé de feu Me Jean Le Geyt, lequel était fils ainé de feu Me Jean Le Geyt et de defunte Mse Rachel Falle, sa femme, ledit Jean Le Geyt, fils Jean, fils Jean, est principal héritier de ladite Rachel Falle, sa grande-mère". Jean thus finally received an inheritance. Jean was in 1849 a "Seaman", aged 36, who had first went to sea in the rating "Boy" in 1825. His declared date of birth was May 1813 at St Saviour, Jersey. He had, in fact, added a year to his age--not uncommon in sailors--as he was really born there in May 1814. He was 5 foot 7 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. A distinguishing Mark was a "Ship," presumably tattooed, on his right arm: Britain: Merchant Seamen 1835-1851, at www.findmypast.com. His and his wife`s absence from all future censuses, suggests they may have left the Island
- ↑ He was a Sailor all his working life, serving on the vessels St George, 1836; Young Dolphin, 1837-8; ‘’Laurel’’, 1838 and other ships. His contributions of £2-7-4 1/4 to the Jersey Merchant Seamans` Benefit Association were returned to his widow in 1847
- ↑ She married secondly Thomas Mourant
- ↑ Mariner. Abraham was sentenced in 1875 to 8 days in prison with hard labour for maltreatment of his wife on different occasions when drunk. In contrast, he became, in 1897, the head of the Le Geyts dit Le Maillier, on the death in London, without issue, of Matthew Le Geyt, Gent. Abraham was living in 1891
- ↑ Bandsman, 2nd Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, based at Fort Regent
- ↑ John Le Geyt appears in the 1871 census, aged 6, but then never again in Jersey censuses
- ↑ Mariner, 1885. By 1894, Abraham William Le Geyt had settled in Lancashire and afterwards lived in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. In the 1939 England and Wales Register, he features as a Blast Furnaceman, retired, living in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire. Their surviving issue features in either the 1901 or 1911 censuses
- ↑ Annie, in the 1911 census, said she had borne seven children, three of whom had died
- ↑ Foreman Bricksetter, [1939 England and Wales Register]
- ↑ Behinder, Sheetmills, (Heavy Work), Glamorgan, Wales. Mother`s maiden name: Fletcher [1939 England and Wales Register]
- ↑ Gardener in 1891. By 1939, Ernest Le Geyt had settled in England and was living in Pembridge, Herefordshire. He was unmarried [1939 England and Wales Register]
- ↑ Mariner, settled in New Zealand, having sailed on the 24th September 1874 on the ship Clarence, with his wife and four children
- ↑ Married in New Zealand; died there in 1953, at Hawke`s Bay
- ↑ Absent from those on the voyage to New Zealand, 1874
- ↑ Mariner
- ↑ Mariner

- ↑ Mariner, 1848-1858
- ↑ Brickmaker, living in 1842 at 24, George Street, St Helier. The Cour de Samedi records, [159/395], that William Le Geyt "prisoner for debt, at the instance of Mons. Moreau Amy, François Le Maistre junior and Me Jean Néel and reduced to petty-cash, by an act [of the court] dated 12/05/1832 until today, has abandoned all goods, furniture and inheritance to his creditors until they are satisfied"
- ↑ William Edmond Le Geyt, a Brickmaker and one-time Mariner, and Ellen Jane, his wife, seem to have left the Island about 1865
- ↑ Mariner, living in 1851 at 16, Cheapside, St Helier, with his wife and sons John William and William Charles Stych aged, respectively, 3 and 1. Next door lived Julia`s brother, William Edmond Le Geyt and his wife
- ↑ Mariner, 1845, Brickmaker, 1861. The age on death, fifty-two years, is incorrect by two years although this was not uncommon
- ↑ Sailor, 1851
- ↑ Brickmaker,-1851-1881-
- ↑ James Dowington`s occupation was given, on his daughter`s marriage in 1851, as Blacksmith. Abraham Edouard and Mary Louisa lived at Copps Cottages, St John`s Road. She married secondly, Joshua Edward Warren
- ↑ Brickmaker, of 49, Huntley Lodge, St John`s Road, in the 1891 census. In 1911, he was likewise employed (census). He and Kate declared they had had no children
- ↑ Brickmaker, of 86, Columbus Street, St Helier, in the 1891 Census; Well-Sinker in 1899. In the 1911 Census, Henry was once again working as a Brickmaker. Henry had been briefly a Butcher (1888)
- ↑ Mary Ann (Mary) stated in the 1911 Census return that she had borne eight children, five of whom were still living and three of whom had died. The three who had died will have included Mary`s youngest, Alfred Charles, who was absent from the family by the time of the 1901 census. The eldest, also called Alfred, shown in the 1881 census, but not on the tree above, was aged 7 to Henry William`s 6 years of age in 1881. He will perhaps be the youth of this name, aged 16, who died at Weymouth in 1892. The family of Henry and Mary lived at 13, Poonah Road, St Helier
- ↑ Plasterer, born in Kent: 1861 Census, St Helier
- ↑ Baker`s apprentice in 1891, Jersey, Butcher in 1899; served in WW1 becoming a Sergeant, Royal Irish Rifles. Henry William Le Geyt, "Butcher, born 1875" was in 1925 a seaman on the SS. Serengaria; he was described as being 5 foot 6 inches in height with grey eyes and dark hair: Britain: Merchant Seamen, 1918-1941. at www.findmypast.com

- ↑ Served in the R.A.F. in WW2
- ↑ Baker`s apprentice, 1891, Jersey, and Roads labourer in 1911. Abraham served in WW1 as a Private, Royal Irish Rifles. By 1939, he had joined other family members in England and was working in West Bromwich as a Brick Labourer. He died there in 1955 [1939 England and Wales Register (in which his first names are reversed to "Sidney A." but his age and the name of his wife are shown correctly); U.K. Deaths Register]
