When this tree was submitted, editor Mike Bisson groaned:'Not another Malzard tree to unravel!'. When he realised that it had the same beginnings as the conflicting trees he had already spent hours trying to reconcile, he groaned even louder. When he further realised that this tree contained an ancestral line for the Malzards at generation 9, including sisters Rosina (Birdie) and Olive, who were his grandfather's first cousins, never married, and lived together in Rouge Bouillon throughout their lives, he settled down to the work of cross-checking the tree against church records and existing online trees.

He found, as he had already with the relationship between online trees and existing Malzard trees in Jerripedia, that there were mistakes everywhere, but progressively, after several hours work (that's the effort we are prepared to put into verifying submitted trees) he arrived at what we believe to be an accurate nine-generation tree, stretching back to the mid-17th century, for this important Jersey family

Discrepancies remain: Was Richard Malzard at generation 3 born in 1710, the son of Jean and Anne Hamelin, or in 1695, the son of Richard and Rachel Mabon. Our research suggests the former.

But the bottom of the tree is not open to doubt, and Mike Bisson reflects on the days when he was a young boy and was taken by his mother to visit Birdie and Olive at their Rouge Bouillon home. 'I recall that they had a model of Jersey's General Hospital which was something to do with one of their ancestors, and perhaps ended up with La Société Jersiaise, and also a marvellous grandfather clock, to which I took a fancy even in those early years, and was promised to me when both Malzard sisters died. Somehow it never came to me, but ended up with my mother and father, and probably passed to my brother, but at least it remained in the family.'

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.
