- Coutanche: In 1941 Philip Coutanche (1886- ) [2] was living here with his wife Emily Rose, nee Langlois (1886- ) and their children Ethel Irene (1912- ), Joan Marie (1916- ) and Philip (1918- ). Mr Coutanche snr had made an application to defer his son's military service in 1940 on the grounds that he was indispendible to the farm's operations. It appears to have succeeded. Notes and references
- ↑ Elmdale is shown in the Datestone Register, but the property does not appear in recent almanacs. It may have been developed and renamed
- ↑ Although we have not been able to place Philip in any of our family trees, we believe him to be a descendant of Descendants of Pierre Coutanche (1545)
