Historic Environment Record entry
Listed building
A fine example of a multi-phase house with 16th century origins, datestone commemorating 1732 refronting, containing many features of architectural and historic interest on both exterior and interior, including original 16th century roof structure.
Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795. A multi-phase structure, oldest parts possibly Elizabethan, with evidence of 16th century fabric and features.
House refronted in 1732, also date of front and back doorways and upstairs windows. Ground floor windows are older and chamfered.
Attached house, two ranges. Southwest range 19th century, two-storey, three-bay. Pantile roof, render walls. Render end stacks.
Ground floor has two doors: To left, six-panel with geometrical overlight; to right, a plank side door with overlight and small window over.
Attached on southwest corner to 19th century building. Two storeys plus attice. Pantile roof, granite walls and quoins. Four doors on ground floor.
French doors in chamfered granite surrounds, to left a glazed/panelled door with datestone in lintel with heart between. Contains virtually complete original (16th century?) roof structure of collar and tie beam design, oak common rafters pegged to continuous purlins and ridge plate set diagonally; good beams throughout, hall on the left has a doorway in the fireplace for a back oven, stair intruding into hall and turning tightly like a tourelle, back door likely entrance to a tourelle - same pattern seen in other St Aubin houses and post-1650 houses of Alderney.
