Raymond St John Pinel (1896-1920), born in St John, was a Corporal in B Company of 6th Battalion Dorset Regiment and was awarded the Military Medal for his bravery during the attack on Gauche Wood on 18 September 1918


One member of the family lost his life while serving in the armed forces and a further 19 saw active service in World War 1.
