Origins of surname
Pouclée is the Jèrriais word for a dolmen, not found in French, which uses the same word as English. It is possible, therefore, that this is an indigenous Jersey family. However, the fact that the name is found in 17th century records for the Calvados and Orne departments of Normandy, some 100 years before it appears in Jersey records, suggest that it came to Jersey from nearby France.
One suggested derivation is from Puck, a Hobgoblin, and lech meaning stone, hence 'Stone of Puck', but this would assume English origins and it seems most likely that the family came to Jersey from France.

Interestingly, all the baptism records are from St Helier, descendants of the six children of Jacques Pouclee and Jeanne Sebire who were baptised in the parish between 1766 and 1783, with the exception of the four children of Etienne Pouclee and Marie Baal, who were married in St Helier in 1794 and appear to have no connection with the other family.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.
New records
Since August 2020 we have added several thousand new records from the registers of Roman Catholic, Methodist and other non-conformist churches. These will appear in date order within a general search of the records and are also individually searchable within the database search form
