Related Words and Etymology
I heard the term "rack line", meaning high tide line in a news article about beaches in New England. This term is also mentioned at http://www.hbtownhall.com/2beach101.htm.
It would be interesting to know if "rack" is derived from "vraic", which itself may derive from the Germanic term "wrack" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/vraic -> http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/wrack), which seems to have the same root as "wreck" as in shipwreck (http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=wreck).
