Notes and references
- ↑ Examples are Jean Alexandre of St Brelade (c1540- ), whose unnamed wife had issue Marie (1574) and Sebastien Alexandre, baptised in 1572, who married in 1598 Marie Coulomb. They had issue Pierre (1599), Edouard (1604), Nicolas (1606) and Denise (1610-1654), who married in 1635, Jean Ficquet. Also born in about 1540, was Thomas Alexandre of St Brelade, who married in 1570 Marie Rose. They had issue Pierre (1571), Jeanne (1575) and Thomas Alexandre (1582), who married in 1606, Marguerite, daughter of Pierre Vaudin. They were perhaps the parents of Josias Alexandre, son of Thomas, who was born in 1611

- ↑ Landowner and Country Banker, the latter commencing in 1817, underwritten by Mr Jean Le Brocq [La Fontaine] and Francois Alexandre [his maternal 1st cousin]. Their St Helier paying agent was Mr Jean Syvret, Broad Street. The bank, as McCammon records, was initially known as St Peter`s Jersey Bank. By 1835, it was Le Coin Bank, with Francis Alexandre now as secretary. The latter`s sister, Henrietta, having married Alexander Low of Le Coin, St Brelade, no doubt accounted for the new name. Matthieu was a Lieutenant, S.W. (5th) Regiment, RJM, with effect from 1812, and Vingtenier of Quennevais. He was drowned, aged 65 years and 2 months on the 9th March, together with Mr Thomas Poingdestre, who was no doubt a relative, and buried in St Brelade`s cemetery: Respectively, Almanac, Constitutionel (1821); A.L.T. McCammon, Currencies of the Anglo-Norman Isles, 216; St Brelade`s parish register (1841)
- ↑ Formerly of Les Ormes, St Brelade, and then of The Oaks, St Peter; Lieutenant, RJM, with effect from 1817, and promoted to the rank of Captain in 1834; Shipowner (1828-1849, retaining shares in shipping in 1851) and Banker (1841-1873), also Freeholder and Farmer of 18 acres (1851)
- ↑ Master Mariner. His baptism has not yet been found, but he features unambiguously as a son, together with the rest of the family in the 1851 census, and in that of 1861 as brother of Matthew George Alexandre. In 1871, he was a Lodger with his said brother`s maternal relative, William Falle, at Malorey Manor. He was issued with a Master`s Certificate of Competency at Jersey on February 17th 1851 and his Board of Trade Master`s Certificate on May 17th that year, at Liverpool, having served 9 years as apprentice, seaman and Mate. His vessels included the Jersey schooner-brigs Renard (142 tons) and Don (130 tons), owned by his father
- ↑ Banker`s and Shipowner`s Clerk (1851) then, on marriage in 1857, Merchant, “of Pillgwenlly, [near Newport] Wales (late of Jersey).” In 1861, he was a Farmer of 12 acres at Hawkmount, Le Coin, St Brelade. He appears to have suffered financially, not unsurprisingly, as a result of Jersey`s bank crashes in 1873, the year his father terminated his own banking activities. He and his wife were living at Brockagh, Beaumont, in 1891, the National Probate Calendar recording in 1894 probate to his two daughters in the sum of £865

- ↑ Merchant
- ↑ Settled on his wife`s property in St Brelade; Deputy for St Brelade, 1893
- ↑ No issue
- ↑ No issue
- ↑ Of La Maison du Coin, St Brelade, formerly Surgeon, H.M. 5th Regiment, Medical Inspector-General, RJM and Deputy in the States for St Brelade. Issue of this marriage included Augusta Low, the wife of the Revd. George John Le Maistre, MA, Incumbent of St Aubin, and Harriet Helen Low, the wife of Major Drake
- ↑ Marie`s baptismal entry has not been found. However, she and her husband presented for baptism in 1762 their daughter, Marie de Lecq. Her godparents were Jean Dallain of St Peter and Elizabeth Alexandre, who was described as being the child`s “Aunt.” Marie Alexandre, herself, described as “wife of Francois de Lecq” was in 1781 godmother of George Francis Alexandre, son of the printer, Matthieu Alexandre, and of his wife Anne, nee Alexandre, who was Marie`s niece
- ↑ Named as Brelade Becquet in Langton`s Alexandre genealogy; however, 8/252 names him as Francois. They had issue Brelade Becquet and his sister Catherine, wife of Nicolas Gervaise
- ↑ Godmother of Brelade, son of Brelade Alexandre, in 1572
- ↑ Rector of St Brelade, 1554-1565; 1571-1572
- ↑ Mariner; probably originally a privateer, but found guilty of piracy on 18th January 1550/1: Cour de Catel. He was sentenced to be hung, as were his co-accused, Bernabey Le Quesne and John Wyte. The sentence was carried out upon the latter two but Alexandre was reprieved “for certain considerations of justice.” Being a son of the former Constable (Mayor) of St Brelade and having two brothers who were local priests, may have benefitted him
