On the seafront in St Ouen's Bay, Chateau Plaisir was one of the island's top nightspots in the second half of the 20th century. It is now demolished and has been replaced by three houses. What few people know is that in the years before the Second World War, Chateau Plaisir was a hotel, or holiday camp, with a large collection of chalets in the grounds, and later a high class restaurant
