Originally three shops, now combined into one including No 10. HER gives a date of construction in the second half of the 19th century, but when Nos 12 and 14 were offered for sale in 2019, they were dated as constructed in 1940. Both were requisitioned by the Germans during the Occupation

This mid-late Victorian building contributes to the streetscape. Three-storey, six bays. Slate roof with two small box dormers.

Notes and references

  1. The Beresford Cafe was fully or partly owned by manager Peter Hamilton's brother-in-law William Henry Fowler, who, in his will drawn up in 1880, left all his shares to his wife Caroline, nee Saunders.
