  1. ↑ We have not been able to identify Nicolas' parents. There was a Nicolas born in Grouville in 1772, the son of Nicolas and Elizabeth Valpy, but he is believed to have married Jeanne Grandin in Grouville in 1793. They had seven children between 1794 and 1807, so Jeanne Journeaux could not have been Nicolas' second wife. Online trees almost exclusively show Nicolas, born in 1801, as the son of Nicolas and Jeanne Grandin, but that is wrong. He was definitely baptised in Grouville on 26 July 1801, the son of Nicolas and Jeanne Journeaux, as shown in this tree
